ANNOUNCEMENTS
6TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
July 23 - 26, 2023
Chulalongkorn University
Bangkok, Thailand
Blended Ways of Presentations
IOHSK is trying to move away from the either/or of conference-site-based or online/virtual only conferences. Whichever way you choose to present or can present, IOHSK will offer a rich experience. The choice to presentation online/virtual only could be an ethical decision for the planet, for security, or when the financial burden of travel is too much. However, online/virtual presentations will be limited with a pre-approval and delivered on the IOHSK Webinar platform. The online/virtual presentation will be carefully approved if they are original research and oral presentation. Please note that the 6th International Conference in Thailand will not provide all sessions available for online access and participation due to technical and financial issues.
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Abstract Submission Types: All abstracts for both oral and poster presentation should have at least 300-350 words, excluding title and author information. No tables, figures, and references should be included to the abstract. All subheadings should be included to the abstract (i.e., Introduction, Purpose, Methods, Results, Conclusion and/or Discussion). Authors are required to submit their abstract online and in English. Please note that no interpretation services will be offered during the conference.
Original Research Oral Presentation Session (A)
In-person/onsite presentation will be organized into research topic/theme by the conference program committee. Papers in this session are presented sequentially, in 20-minute presentation blocks (13-15 minutes presentation followed by 5-7 minutes Q&A). Online presentations will be scheduled and presented via IOHSK Webinar for three days, July 24-26, 2023. Each presentation will have a discussion area/box where comments and questions can be direct to the presenters. All oral presentation session rooms are equipped with screens and data projectors. Presenters are asked to bring their own laptop computers and correct Mac VGA adapter.
Original Research Poster Presentation Session (B)
Poster sessions advertise your research and in progress work, which combines texts and graphics to make a visually pleasing presentation. Your poster should quickly and efficiently communicate your research. In this session, authors have the opportunity to display or exhibit their work and engage in informal discussion about their work with other delegates throughout the session. The author must remain by his/her poster board for the duration of the session (90-100 minutes). Displays must be posters, a maximum of 4x3 Feet (121.92 x 91.44 Centimeters; Width x Length; Horizontal). Space for the poster or exhibit will be provided by the conference. However, all materials must be organized by the presenter, including posters, displays, handouts or other appropriate materials.
Research Critique Oral Presentation Session (C)
Research critique involves critique of one research article that has been already published and available for the public. It is designed to develop professional writing and critical thinking skills (what is critical thinking?). Submission in this session are limited to succinct critiques of an original research scholarly article on any topic within the fields of exercise science, health, sports, wellness, physical activity, physical education, adapted physical education, nutrition, dance, recreation, sport management and business, and kinesiology. The original article must detail a single research study. Research reviews are not appropriate articles for this type of presentation.
Your abstract content (700 word maximum) should include the followings:
A. Succinctly paraphrase the purpose statement(s) listed in the critiqued article. One to two introductory sentences may be used to provide supporting background information, for the purpose statement(s). You need to provide an in text citation for your referenced article following your purpose statement.
B. Identify major methodological points from the critiqued article. These may include participant information, equipment and testing procedures, research design, or statistical analysis. Space is limited, so present only what is most relevant to the article critique.
C. Synthesize and/or summarize major points from the results and discussion sections in the critiqued article.
D. Provide your critical thoughts on the article. They could address things such as: the major findings conclusions of the study a strength or benefit of the study results research design a limitation of the study results research design. This is perhaps the most important part of the abstract because it portrays your critical thinking skills.
Submissions should be made by undergraduate students (1 to 3 students) and one faculty mentor as the last author. Each faculty mentor can only serve and submit a maximum of two submissions. Submissions in this session are presented sequentially, in 20-minute presentation blocks (13-15 minutes presentation followed by 5-7 minutes Q&A).
All presentations in this session will be evaluated for the Best Presentation Awards with Scholarships (3,000 to 10,000 THB, $1 = 32 to 34 THB as of February 2023). Winners will be announced on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 and must present at the time of award ceremony.

[Official] An Introduction to Chulalongkorn University 2022 English Version
As “Lifetime Honorary President” of IOHSK I offer my enthusiastic welcome to the participants of this Sixth International IOHSK Conference. I am pleased that it will be co-hosted by the Faculty of Sports Science at Chulalongkorn University, a highly rated and highly ranked University.
The conference theme, “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” is particularly relevant to me as these concepts have been an important focus of my research (i.e., field-based studies related to physical activity and public health) and on the development of school-based curricula (e.g., SPARK). Sadly, our research in the U.S shows that female, senior, and non-White individuals engage in less physical activity than their counterparts. Additionally, I grew up in Canada (which has two official languages) and in the public schools where I taught, we were required to have a matching female interscholastic team for each male team.
There is strength in diversity. The conference brings together diverse researchers, practitioners, and policy makers from many countries to discuss current needs and perhaps more importantly, how to provide optimal service to the underserved.
The conference themes will be addressed through unique and innovative lenses, and I want to thank the presenters who stepped forward to share their knowledge, experiences, and expertise--both face-to-face and virtually. I am particularly pleased that program offerings are being provided in a hybrid fashion and that they will be made available to members that were unable to attend (e.g., costs, convenience, proximity, and aging) are all equity issues.
I applaud Dr. Hosung So and the other organizers for such a well-planned program.
I have enjoyed all my visits to Thailand, and I am sure you will too! Enjoy!
Dr. Thomas L. McKenzie
The awards are merit-based scholarships for higher education students demonstrating high academic performance related to the goals of the International Organization for Health, Sports, and Kinesiology (IOHSK). They are intended for students from low- to middle-income countries. The names of recipients will be announced during the 6th International Conference on July 23-26, 2023, at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. The award honors the memory of Lucy Shoham who passed away in 2022 at age 100. She was the mother of Randi (Shoham) McKenzie and mother-in-law of Thomas L. McKenzie (Honorary Lifetime IOHSK President).
